Lots of big things today.

1775 - First Abolition Society was founded in Philadelphia. Orginally called "The Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage," they changed their name to "Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery and the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage" in 1784.

1818 - The Webster's Dictionary is first published.

1865 - President Abraham Lincoln was fatally shot by John Wilkes Booth.

1865 - One of the last things Lincoln did before his death was to approve the proposal for the Secret Service. However, the original purpose was to help fight the rise of counterfeit money.

1912 - The Titanic hit the iceberg.

1935 - Loretta Lynn was born and a major dust bowl storm hit.
